A few weeks ago, I spent a weekend with two of my dearest friends. No big travel plans, no theater, no concerts—just good food, deep conversations, and music. I even took a break from my usual commitments so I could be fully present.

When I reconnect with old friends, I love to capture the moment with a portrait. This time, it was intentional—we coordinated our outfits, chose a gray background, and let my son take the photo. Later, I edited out small imperfections, adjusting the lighting and fine-tuning the details.

But as I looked at the final image, I began to reflect…

Are We Missing the Beauty of Intentional Photos?

With our phones allowing us to snap endless pictures, do we still take the time to appreciate them? Do we miss out on the significance of a well-planned portrait—one that tells a story, captures an emotion, and reminds us of what truly matters?

In a world of constant digital noise, it’s easy to lose the art of reflection. We are bombarded with new images, videos, and messages every second. But do we pause to cherish the memories that shaped us?

The Power of Unplugging

This week, I faced an anxiety flare-up—one I hadn’t experienced since discovering I had long COVID. It was a wake-up call. As someone who creates and teaches content, I know how powerful digital storytelling is. But I also recognize the importance of setting boundaries.

Sometimes, we need to step back, breathe, and unplug. We need to stop multitasking and simply be present.

So tonight, that’s exactly what I’m doing. No distractions, no background noise—just me, a portrait, and the memories it holds.

What About You?

What’s a photo that brings you comfort? One that reminds you of the moments that truly matter? I’d love to hear about it—share in the comments!

I want to take a moment and say thank you for trusting me enough to follow this blog. I have been passionate about music and ministry and understanding how to have better worship. I’ve tried to share my discoveries along the way. Sometimes I’ve gotten discouraged and you haven’t heard from me as much. But I have continued to seek to know my Heavenly Father more and he has blessed my efforts to grow as a singer, songwriter and content creator.

I have almost maxed out my friendship limit of 5000 friends on my personal Facebook profile as well. Hallelujah!!

With much opportunity comes greater responsibility so I pledge to work harder to give you value. To this end I am going to begin a series of posts about content creating in hopes that you will be inspired to share your journey to worship with those in your sphere of influence. Broken But Useful

Psalm 31:12 ESV

“I have been forgotten like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel.”

Have you ever felt like you aren’t useful anymore?  Perhaps you are a singer and your church doesn’t ask you to do special music anymore but instead they focus on other singers with a different style.  Are you feeling like you aren’t relevant anymore?  Maybe you had personal problems and struggles and now you feel that people don’t look up to you anymore.  What do you have to offer?  How can you contribute when you are broken?  Do you feel like God has given up on you? Are you broken?

I came by this morning to encourage you.  God uses broken people to heal the world.  God uses broken people to heal the world.  Broken people are compassionate and realize but for the grace of God they would be in a similar challenge as someone else.  Broken people are patient as they encourage the discouraged.  Broken people can relate to others’ pain.

Jesus Was Broken

The bible says “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”(Heb. 4:15)  Jesus was broken.  He may not have sinned but he sure suffered.  He knows what it feels like to go through difficulty.  Jesus loves us unconditionally and has work for us to do as we bring our brokenness to Him.

If you were caught up in drug use you can help the person who is still addicted.  If you were caught up in a lifestyle of partying than you can help the individual who has hit rock bottom and can’t find the joy anymore in their hook ups and drinking.  If your marriage ended in divorce you are able to save others marriages or help mend the torn hearts of those who now are going through the end of a marriage.

Today I am broken, but I am useful….and so are you.  Take your brokenness and go bless the world with it today! You are broken but useful!!!!

“Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.”

Psalm 51:10

Day 10: Clean

The body is an amazing machine.  It does so many things to take care of itself.  But when it’s systems are overwhelmed bad things take place.  If the toxic load gets too heavy then we receive side effects.  It may manifest in skin break outs or lack of energy.  It may be worse.

In Psalm 51 David asks his Creator to create inside of him a clean heart.  Right now If you want healing in your mind and body it would be a great idea to ask for a clean heart like David did.  But what comes next?  What do we do with our heart?  Do we feed it with images of evil?

Today, I choose to look at things that are good for me.  Phillipians 4:8 says:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

That’s what I want in my mind…in my heart, and in my body.  Lord, give me a clean mind and body so that I may worship you well with my life!

I’m on a 100 day sharing journey about healing.  Please subscribe and share whatever you find helpful.  Also, I welcome your comments about your journey to healing.

Day 8: The Gift Of Tears

“Jesus Wept”

John 11:35

One of the best gifts you can give is to open up your heart to feel deeply someone else’s pain.

I remember well one of the last times I met with my dear friend Kishore.  We got together to share some Korean food for lunch in Northern Virginia. As we sat at the table and talked I shared about some of the painful struggles I was going through.  One of the best things about sharing with a brother who I have known for 40 years was the fact that he could see everything through a different lense than most. He could tell that I wasn’t the same person I used to be.

He could see that I had lost some confidence.  My faith had dimmed. The outgoing and energetic fellow worship leader he once knew had become very introspective and isolated.  And he was moved by what he saw.

That day he gave me one of the best gifts I have ever received.  He cried because of what I was going through. I don’t remember seeing him cry before or since.  Perhaps it was because he saw himself in my pain. Maybe it was because he missed the person I used to be.  Or maybe it was that Jesus in his heart that moved him with compassion.

When I am stuck and reluctant to take the steps necessary to improve my life I reflect on his tears.  I know that God made me to give Him glory with my life. And I know there’s still work for me to do for Him.

When we’ve been hurt the last thing we want to do is open up our heart again.  But to heal and to grow we must.

Today, I choose to open up my heart again and let the healing love come in.  I choose to watch for opportunities to empathetically listen to others hurts and in so doing help them and I heal and give God greater glory.
